Sufferin' cephalopods! October 8 (like 8 tentacles, get it?) marks International Octopus Day!

Despite their proven intelligence (usually escaping human captivity), we humans tend to focus on octopi appearance. With three hearts inside and scores of suckers outside, octopi are pretty alien-looking on land, which is where they're easiest for us to see up close. In their native undersea habitat, octopi tend to unload ink when they take notice of predators to ensure a concealed getaway. Their ninja-like survival mechanism is no match for nets, however, which are what fisherman use to capture the Cthulhu-licious treats for seafood lovers around the globe. Nets, man. Truly the most diabolical of the meshes.

Use your superior intellect to cast your eyes on these eight comics celebrating our eight-armed friend, the octopus.
