He would have to bring up his game a long way for that to happen. I was a house husband while my wife completed her graduate program. She was signficantly older than I and I was already doing most of the household chores. I also ran a free-lance computer consulting business during that time.
As I mentioned in another strip’s comments – Husband got burned out at work. He was director of a children’s agency/day school for those with emotional problems. He had to deal with state mental health and state ed and they often did not agree.
In his mid 50s he would come home from work and go to bed. Wake up for dinner and sit at the kitchen table the rest of the evening staring at the TV – not even seeing what was on.
I have worked in accounting since I was 12 or so as my dad and mom were both accountants. At the point he had problems my dad and I had taken over my former boss’s practice and I suggested to husband that I support us for awhile, while he took a leave from work with an eye towards him going back to work or not, depending on how he felt at the end of same. We also have/had a craft business which while never very profitable, we could work on increasing sales.
At the end of the 6 months he felt better and could not deal with the thought of going back to what he had been dealing with. So we continue along on my accounting income and craft sales. Though now both are much lower then they were. We get by comfortably, and it was one of the better decisions we made. It is great all the time – no, but we are together and like being so. We were friends before we started dating for a year or so and remain best friends now.

What does the coffee shop charge to stable him for, say, six months?

I bet he’s disabled enough for assisted living at this point. Or skid row.

You mean all this time Adam was not a “kept man”?
Macushlalondra 3 months ago
Kept man – house husband. Does all the housework. Has a hot dinner ready for his wife when she gets home. Not a bad deal if you can afford it.

I’ve been a “kept man” for my entire marriage. I’m assuming that’s the case because so far I haven’t received divorce papers.
