You know, sometimes it’s tough being left out.

Alcohol and hot tubs can be a bad combination, especially when alone…

So alone, not so sad.

Gus seems to be a man who has learnt to live – and ultimately, die. Not a lesson most people acknowledge in the real world.

Even so, something seems portentous in this arc.

What? No ladies his age around?

Ahhhhh, alone time.

Who owns the guest house?

Being alone doesn’t necessarily mean one is lonely.

Pop is living his best life :)

…..so contented.

Do you get the feeling Gus is not long for the strip? Perhaps to cut this visit short?

Gus finally takes time for himself.

There are a lot of advantages to growing old that kids their age don’t understand. I find that being in my late 60s is the best time of life. Things that I used to worry about or find irksome don’t bother me anymore. There’s a certain peaceful coexistence with the world.

Yeah, Gus has it down. No issues here. The man knows how to chill.

Where’s the TV with the ball game on?

It’s strange how you don’t notice people changing that you see every day. But people that you only see every three or four months, you notice the weight gain, hair grayer and more wrinkles.

So pitiable!! Pore thang.

Ah, there’s the stogie. And i hope it is a fine Vouray he is drinking-goes great with turkey.

What time does his girlfriend arrive?

Where is Pop’s wife? No Mary Lou’s mother (in Los Angeles, I believe) but Pop’s second wife. I recall Mary Lou mentioning her before.

That can work unless you’ve been the course to abate prostate cancer.

That cigar isn’t helping…

We mostly shrink over time. Though Bill Shatner is robust for 90.

We can hardly wait to get rid of the meddling kids, ha ha.

Is it just me or does the artwork look different in this strip? The first panel doesn’t look at all like JJ’s normal stuff and the second and third ones look off (maybe just due to the coloring.)

Why didn’t he come along?
