I’ve always thought July was worse than August. Take January and July off the calendar and I’d be happy

I think it has become fashionable to preach gloom and doom, but things aren’t that bad. At least in the Midwest we’ve been enjoying resort weather. Nights are cooler and days are rapidly getting shorter, with most days being actually pleasant. Haven’t turned on the AC in weeks.

We actually had a rather ‘mild’ July in SoCal, this year.

Not so much for August, though ..

The dogwood trees in front of my house are already losing green, although that is at least as much lack of rain as the approaching autumn.

The one draw back on living in what we on the gulf coast consider God’s Paradise. There is a period that you don’t go outside if you don’t have to….. but we don’t have to shovel partly cloudy off our walkway to get to the car so we can go to the beach on Christmas. Lol

The nasty hot summer helps us appreciate the best season of the year: Autumn!

The hottest day in Salem, OR was in June 2021. At 117F, it was the hottest place in the USA. This year the hottest day was also in June. Looking at several mid-90s during the rest of August, nominal highs are in the 80s.

July and August are almost exactly the same in FL. My two least favorite months. At least we have football in August to look forward to.

July was the hottest month on record where I live – FL. Since they’ve began keeping records in 1880’s.

The news repeatedly spoke of dangerous heat in the Pacific northwest, but never mentioned that the highest temperature on the central Oregon coast has not yet exceeded 70 degrees F. The high temp most days in the Newport, OR area are in the low to mid 60s.

We’ve had 3 months of scorching hot weather in the bluegrass. The drought finally broke. Now it’s flooding. I watered my garden and flowers for two months. Last year was so wet, that my garden vegetables rotted.

In South Texas we have finally gotten some much needed rain and several days of less than 100+ degrees. One day the high was 79! in mid-August!!!

I’m from Connecticut and now live in Florida. For me, July was always the hottest month. August, usually in the second week or by the middle of the month, was when we got the first cold wind of Autumn. You’d be outside enjoying the sun and the summer laziness, when suddenly a chilly full wind came out of the north, and you just knew that summer was almost over, and on its way out. There would still be warm days and fun ahead, but it wouldn’t be the same.

Here in the NW, we are on our fourth heat wave of 95+. Tomorrow, for example, it is forecast for 100F. I hate summer with a passion.

Luckily we have had some cooler daytime temps, with less humidity, and cooler nights this August here in Ohio, quite a change from what we had in July (which should have been the dog days of summer)
