I don’t think people will be sending letters, postcards, Christmas cards, etc. much anymore as the cost just went up to 73 cents per stamp. I think they were 5 cents when I was a baby.
I said this yesterday! Whamond made yesterday’s Day by Dave about something completely inane! It could have been Bastille Day – or the Fête nationale française.
To slightly change the subject from French postcards, I’m going to ask the question I’ve asked a few times before. Why do French Canadians celebrate Bastille Day? Quebec hadn’t been a French possession for over 25 years when the French Revolution began. That’s like if the US celebrated Queen Victoria’s birthday! Okay, back to the French postcards… that’s more interesting anyway, and I still say it’s “French envelopes”, not “French letters”!
I don’t think that they really know what “French Postcards” really are. Otherwise Arlo wouldn’t want to receive them and Janis wouldn’t want to send them. Well, being a guy, Arlo might want to get one.
My dad used to love to joke about things. In particular he loved to tell jokes which went over the head of his oldest girl child until he explained them.
One of them was that the Bastille was made out of the bast steel money could buy.
Okay- everyone can groan at the joke now, but to a 5 year old or such girl this is how I first learned about the Bastille as he explained it to me.

Uh oh, Janis doesn’t realize what she’s suggesting. Arlo’s apparent joy should be a clue.

Arlo, the term is “French letter” NOT “French postcard”. I suppose you COULD get them in the mail ….. Amazon has everything

French letter is slang for a condom, maybe French postcards are for quickies …… or use by small men. ha ha

I remember when “French Post Cards” were considered obscene and confiscated by the US Postal Service.

I thought Bastille Day was yesterday because I heard them announce during Tour de France. I am learning so much from the comments here.

A Bastille Day French Postcard – Marie Antoinette standing on the gallows with the crowd shouting “Off with her clothes”
(Before anyone mentions it, I know Bastille Day was in 1789 and she wasn’t executed until 1792)

No comments about what makes a “French postcard” a “French postcard”?

Since neither Janis nor Arlo know any French, how would they know the cards are buying are in French?

“French Postcards” were famous for images of naked ladies and sometimes sexual situations.
