Did you know that the USB-A is a four dimensional object? It only works if you push it at the socket, stop, wait a moment, rotate it, and push it in again. Thus it involves three spatial dimensions plus a fourth: that being time.

If Arlo will just memorize all the ‘wrong’ cords, then it reasonable to believe that the cord he wants is the one he does not recognize. And thus begins Arlos’ journey into the bottomless pit of logic.

Unique plug for a Macbook. Lighting plugs for other Apple devices. USB-A for e-Book and headphones. USB-C for Android phones and other devices. Unique plugs for old Windows laptop and for Android tablet. Yeah, pretty much the norm.

I have a power supply which has FOUR connectors (the hollow tubular sort) of different sizes; the plug/transformer has TWO switches on the back, to change voltage and to change polarity. It’s taped to my four-track recorder to make sure I’m never tempted to use it on any other appliance.

I don’t have any devices that require any of those cords, no use for phones or other stuff like that. Ah the freedom that brings!

Now, in addition to the proverbial junk drawer in the kitchen, we have the spaghetti drawer in the next room that’s full of cables.

Back in the day, the USB-A wasn’t called that. It was just plain USB.

USB-C is much easier. It’s obvious what it is, and you don’t have to get it right side up.

You can also be certain it won’t go in the right way ’round the first time. Ever. USB-C is objectively better in every respect.

What about all those bizarre little connectors the come with cameras? Every one different…

No, that’s a Firewire cable.

When technology changes, throw out all the old and get new everything.

We have 3 different cell phones, one of which is an Apple, and none of them have the same charger or usb connection. I share his frustration.

I have coloured tapes, so I wrapped the head of the cables with a different colour each. Yellow for USB-C, blue for USB-A, red for mini. That’s so much easier, no need to check each end, pick up the right colour.
