I had those on the side of my bed as a kid. They kept me from falling out, and also kind of kept me in bed, because I refused to ever sleep, and would just wander around the house if the rails weren’t up… They only guarded one side of the bed though, and once I rolled out of bed and wound up wedged between the bed and the wall.
