That brought back a distant memory of being woken up by my mother early saying we were going to a specific toy store and ending up at the hospital getting my tonsils cut out.

Guilty, guilty, guilty! I did this, except I was upfront with the kids about it being a dental appointment from the get-go, but the dentist was always followed by a “bribe” toy-buying expedition later. Even in later years, an orthodontist appointment was followed with a fast-food lunch (a rare enough occurance to be special)
