HOA’s are run by swell headed power want-to-be’s who are important only in their own minds. HOA’s must be unconstitutional and should be outlawed. Lived in one briefly until it disbanded when the housing are reached a percent complete. We defied everything in the covenant and dared them to fine us or take us to court. Nothing ever happened and my wife even threatened to bodily throw the president off our property.
I’ll sooner live out of my car over living at any HOA. At this point, it’s a social experiment gone wrong: Give certain people power over others and it goes to their heads. Hardest of passes.
No HOA for me, either. I can’t OWN something (substantial… like… a home) only to be owned and dictated by somebody else’s nitpicky opinion. I will never belong to the Stepford Club in any capacity. I would never be able to meet the criteria :D
Certain types of individuals gravitate to positions of ‘power’ in HOA’s and they typically are the same types of individuals that rise to mid-level positions in places like East Germany or North Korea.
I live in a retirement community and in such places HOAs are in control. A friend in another city had all HOA members vote to get rid of the HOA some years ago, it passed. No HOA but local city laws and zoning laws are followed. I’m selling my home and looking to move there.
If I had a private house, I would quit the HOA, if I had even joined it to begin with. It is not an elected level of government, and therefore has no business legislating rules to govern anybody.

Don’t think I would like living in a neighborhood controlled by a HOA. A group of people telling me what I can or can’t do.

Mandatory? BOSH!!! I’d get my own party going in my back yard and blast the wildest music imaginable just to peeve off that pesky HOA.

Live in a house inherited from parents predates any HOA.

HOA Hell on America! Should be a good story line when Hammy’s antics and propensity for digging get them foreclosed on.

A HOA sponsoring a block party? I don’t believe it.

Fudge the HOA. I’d never live in an area controlled by an HOA. I’ll do what I want with my property, TYVM.
