“This weird sculpture” must have been how my parents described things I built at that age.

That might seem strange to anyone who has never been around children, it is also the reason why I avoid them.

Ah yes, imagination, not seen much in the children of today. It’s so refreshing.

For me, one of the most curious things about this piece is its wonderful… afunctionalism.

Yes. I see what you mean. Divorced from its function and seen purely as a piece of art, its structure of line and color is curiously counterpointed by the redundant vestiges of its function.

And since it has no call to be here, the art lies in the fact that it is here.

My Dad and I had an interesting topic of conversation on the way back from my doctors appointment on Monday, the doctor is about a 25 minute drive, my pacemaker followup, and I don’t like to drive that far anymore so that is why Dad drove me. We got to talking about a childs imagination because I was mentioning the comics on here and my favorite ones and we got to talking about Calvin and Hobbes and he mentioned that he always thought Calvin had a mental problem, like so many do, and I mentioned that he has an active imagination and we got to talking about if every chld has had an imaginary friend sometime in their childhood and he claimed he never did but I told him he should have because they make childhood fun so then we got to talking about childrens creativty and how it is a shame that some people won’t allow their child to be creative and how the kids are missing out on wonderful things. Just a very intersting topic for us to discuss and this weeks comic with Hammie reminds me so much of that conversation.
