My brother and I liked different kinds of candy. He liked licorice.. I didn’t. For him.. chocolate had to have nuts in it… not me. So we would spread our two piles on a bed and he’d take all the ones I didn’t like.. and I would take his rejects. It worked out extremely well.. and no arguing or tricking each other.
My kids (and sometime their friends) emptied all of their booty onto the dining room table, and then the bargaining began. The haggling was fierce, but in the end, everyone seemed satisfied with their deals- no Zoe-level of attempted thievery.
Somehow this reminds me of those scams where you’re told, “You’ve come into a fortune! But to get it, you first have to give me some of yours.” Then more, and more, till you’re broke – and never see that “fortune”.
My son and his friend went out trick-or-treating together, and came back with two big bagfuls of candy. Then together they sat down and created three piles: Stuff my son likes, stuff his friend likes (they shared and traded) and stuff for the parents to take to work.
This describes what it’s like to grow up as a scapegoat. The golden child is trained to treat the scapegoat this way and the scapegoat is conditioned to believe that he doesn’t deserve his treats or have any rights. Thankfully Wanda and company don’t subscribe to this method. In the household I grew up in you hid your candy!
Love it! Face it, Hammie. Zoe is older than you are. At your ages, it means she IS smarter than you. Wait until she goes to brush her teeth. Take back what’s yours — and maybe a little of hers as interest, too.

Even if Hammie rats out Zoe, she’s already mixed all the candies in one bag. How can he prove which were his?

You’re a total disgrace, Hammie! A TRUE pirate would never allow himself to be swindled out of his hard-earned booty!

I see a political career in her future.

Next year Darrell and Wanda will take all the candy and portion it out to the children one piece at a time. That should cure their issue with greed

Zoe is such a brat. She needs to be put in her place and quit treating Hammy so badly. Perfect punishment….Hammy gets his candy back and hers also!
DKHenderson 3 months ago
Brat is a vast understatement for Zoe. Smushing her into the corner seems inadequate for this level of out-and-out thievery.
