    OK, I get the joke, but let’s assume for a minute that it really was a tape measure. The end they’re looking at would “say” 0,1,2,3 … The total measurement is at the OTHER end.

    The foot (as a unit of measure) The standard Roman foot (pes) was normally about 295.7 mm (11.6 in) (97% of today’s measurement), but, in the provinces, the so-called pes Drusianus (foot of Nero Claudius Drusus) was used, with a length of about 334 mm (13.1 in). So how accurate was that measurement ? Then you used an anteater’s tongue? I call foul.
