I used to make my own kites when I was a kid. I used newspaper and dried weed stalks for sticks. They worked pretty well. Kind of gives you an idea of how poor my family was when I was growing up.

But this comic got me to thinking. If a caveman wanted to make a kite, what materials could he find to use? Sticks probably wouldn’t be too hard to find, but what could he use for paper? Maybe he could make parchment from animal hides.

As a kid I used to do a lot of kite flying (back when you can buy them for a dime.) We spent our summers at the beach. You could always depend on a good onshore breeze at night.

I did to. My dad showed me how to make glue out of flour and water. Can’t remember if anything else was mixed in there but it did work pretty good.

Stone Kite. You know, that could have been a band name back in the 70’s sort of like Led Zeppelin.

Maybe it’s a good thing that it failed…can you imagine it up in the air when the wind cuts out?

The ‘stone kite’ gags had me laughing loudly in the old B.C. I’m glad that Thor still hasn’t learned anything in the New Stone Age.

If the wind generates enough force to lift the stone kite, I certainly don’t want to be out in it.

I always thought the stones they use are very light considering they float on the water when a message is written on them.
