The ‘New Beetle’ was produced from 1998 thru 2011. The model that succeeded it in 2012 had a lower roofline and less headroom, bad news for those of us 6 foot 4 and taller.
My mom had a couple Beetles I learned to drive a stick on my own I borrowed it one time never drove before I was 14 or so. Brought it back home after a 30 mile drive without a scratch. Don’t know if she ever knew or not. Went on to have my first accident in her bug legal driver then. Fun cars to drive.
My mother would have been glad to see that the beetle, being an insect, is shown with 6 legs. One of her pet peeves was drawings of spiders having 6 legs when they actually have 8!
The comic with Bleebs in it is called “Close to Home,” by John McPherson. I haven’t been reading it really long, but the artist draws a small bug-type thing called “Bleebs” and readers have to search for him – or her. Bleebs isn’t there every day; I didn’t see him today. It seems everyone assumes Bleebs is a “he.”

The Cicada turned out to be a dud. Not only was it too noisy, but it only started up once every 17 years.
