Mine was surprisingly easy and quick this year. Probably means I made a mistake somewhere… ☺

I make a visit once a year to my tax preparer. We have a pleasant visit, no problem.

Still doing mine, it’s got me in a loop telling me to complete a form that has nothing to do with me, a business loan for a business I don’t have.

These endless unreadable forms keep a lot of people employed at the IRS.

I have the dying end of two accounting practices (the man I worked for and my dad). I do a handful of returns – plus 2 corporation returns – one of which is for husband and me.

I started working with taxes back when copying machines involved putting the item being copied and the blank page through a slot near the top of the machine and a green light came on as they fed through. When they came out “the blank” page had to be fed into the other slot halfway down the front of the machine where it would go into the solution and come out as wet copy that had to be hung up to dry – no copying on the rear of the paper of course. I would help my dad by hanging up the wet pages for him (and this was done in my parents’ bedroom). Maybe 8-10 years old?

This has been THE ODDEST tax season I have ever gone through. Business client ended up in hospital. Went to file extensions for her business – returns due March 15. IRS, no problem, NYC, not problem. NYS – oyyyyy. This is the only tax return for which the extension can only be filed ONLINE – no form to download. I called up, sat on hold a hour or saw and explained to the employee – I have no authority to file, client is a child Holocaust survivor in her late 80s who does not use a computer at all – and is in the hospital. She went and actually managed to get permission to send an extension form – TO THE CLIENT’S BUSINESS – where there is no one as client is in the hospital. Waited 2 weeks, sent her SIL to check – no form. Called again – somehow actually got the same employee. Her only solution was for the client to give me power of attorney to change the business’ mailing address to me and then after I got the forms, change it back again to her business. Hopefully that has worked and she has an extension.
