We normally don’t to go to bed until 4 am or so anyway, so no big deal to stay up and “watch the ball drop” on TV. And despite living in the NYC area our entire lives we have never gone nor do we know of anyone who has.
(Both late night people – when Covid hit and there was no reason most days to wake up at normal time – we stayed up later. Even if on a day I was working – from home – I would start later in the day. We are now working on trying to get back to our more normal times, which still involves waking later than most normal people and still go to bed in the wee hours of the morning.)
When I was a girl watching the ball drop was a big deal to me – now – who cares, January 1 is just another day of the year – only means have to remember to date letters and checks 2025 instead of 2024.

When Ben is facing the viewer his eyeglasses are rectangular, but when he is shown in profile they appear to be round. Happy New Year from Vancouver.
