I dunno about that, Betty. I remember having to run and hide from physical bullies. Having to buy the “right” jeans and shirts to fit in and being ridiculed mercilessly if we didn’t (kids today aren’t as clothes-conscious). Being stuck at home and feeling isolated and alone. Having only three channels to watch on TV, all playing the same boring re-runs I’d already seen 4 or 5 times — and if you missed one single episode of your favorite show, you had to wait until summer to watch it. And so on.
I don’t think things were that great when I was a kid, but that was the world I was raised in, so I am acclimatized to it. Sometimes, that makes it seem subjectively better than it actually was.
