Words can have several meanings and idioms are always hard to understand when thought of literally (their meaning must be memorized). A word which comprises two separate words may sometimes be hard to understand because it might not have the same meaning as its word components. This is always hard to learn for non-native speakers. However, a word can usually be broken into three parts: the root, the prefix and the suffix. The meanings of common roots, prefixes and suffixes can be memorized to piece together the meaning of a word, which is much easier.
I love this classic Big Nate humor! I haven’t seen too many censored jokes in the new Big Nate comics but seeing it today just made my day! As for me, I can take a general guess at what Jenny’s “nickname” might be. But I can remember as a kid watching TV and they would bleep something out and I would ask my mom what all the bleeping was. And she said that simply that the people who were bleeping were saying mean things to the other person who they were actually saying it to (but now I know they were saying, you son of a *. LOL). So (not knowing any curse words) I would imagine that they were saying the mean “words” that I knew as a 5-year-old. (Which would be something silly like meany head, or stupid). So when I see something being censored I am brought back to a little me making up my own words that I felt were worthy of being censored. LOL
