'Pokemon Go' One Year Later: The Comics That Caught 'Em All

It's been one full year since Pokemon Go single-handedly preoccupied the global workforce, student population and everyone else with something more important to do. Such is the righteous might of gamified augmented reality, particularly when weaponized with one of the most popular intellectual properties in existence.

In the days, weeks and months following Niantic and The Pokemon Company's PG launch, players from all walks went on... all walks. Despite the fact that the app could be buggy, the game didn't include an instruction manual, and players practically had to indulge in in-app purchases to have much fun, millions toiled in the name of sort of catching some of 'em all.

A full twelve months after the game's launch, daily use has dropped from a peak 28.5 million daily users to somewhere around 5 million. I blame Millenials, who make up 60 percent of players. Or something.

Celebrate Pokemon Go's birthday with these strips from throughout its first year of appxistence.

Why is this so accurate to real life Pokemon Go?

Whatever happened to common sense?  over 5 years ago

The Real Life Adventures strip was prophetic. Not one but two guys walked off a cliff while playing Pokémon Go. This happened last year somewhere near San Diego.

You are witnessing the downfall of our society. Every day I see more and more people walking around like zombies with their noses buried in their stupid phones. What I would like to know is this… what data being displayed on those screens is so urgent that they can’t leave it alone for even a few seconds? What is so important that they risk walking into traffic or falling down stairs? They have become so dependent on these electronic crutches that they can no longer perform simple tasks without consulting some idiotic phone app. The average IQ is rapidly dropping.

One of these days a solar flare or some other disaster is going to knock out the satellites and the phone zombies will be unable to function without their toys. There will be total pandemonium.
