Helium Discovery Day? More like Heli-YUM Discovery Day!

Not really. Helium doesn't have a taste. Everybody knows that. Haven't you read how Georges Rayet, Captain C. T. Haig, Norman R. Pogson, Lieutenant John Herschel, and Jules Janssen all put their heads together and made sense of a weird yellow-y sunshine line during a solar eclipse on this day in 1868? That's where helium gets its name -- from the Greek Sun god Helios. I know, they should've called it "Heliom," but whatever.

Helium is lighter than air, so it's great for making balloons and other, cooler things float. If you take a hit off a canister, your voice will also sound funny for a few seconds. There are probably more serious applications for this rare element, but they don't make comics about those and we refuse to spend any more time doing research.
