Emperor penguins keep their eggs (one per couple) on their feet at all times. And by the way, after being gone for weeks, the females return and do indeed recognize their mate… or maybe it’s the egg. While they are gone, what the fathers do to take care of the egg, is quite a feat of parenting.
remember a few days ago i commented on the mine fileds in the Falklands? the birds are too light to set them off but humans can’t go near them creating a perfectly peaceful preserve.
