I’ve lived to see smoking go out of fashion. I remember when I was a kid the whole side of a movie theatre was for smoking and the non-smoking park of a restaurant was a small , undesirable section.
Then it switched and the smoking section became the smaller part, then phased out entirely.
Speaking on quitting smoking Robert Parker wrote, “what we lose in dramatic gestures we gain in health.”
Cigarettes , incredible addiction. We just enrolled my 87 YO MIL into Hospice for a smoking related cancer. And she is still smoking. And her 65 YO son is still smoking cigarettes. Not to mention her two previous husbands died from smoking related cancers. That is some serious addiction. With all the smoking related deaths each year it is simply stunning that cigarettes are not illegal. We ban other highly addictive substances. Just too much money to be made to give that up.
Halfway through my tour in Vietnam, I went on R&R in Hawaii. A stage hypnotist mesmerized me to quit. It didn’t work until I was back in Vietnam, but I haven’t touched a cigarette since.

I smoked for 27 years. I quit at age 43. It took me 6 tries before I succeeded.

W. C. Fields once allowed that quitting cigarettes was the easiest thing in the world to do, and that he’d done it a thousand times…

The best thing I’ve ever done for my health was to never start smoking in the first place!

Do you give two tears for Steve-o?…
