Life support systems are a waste and g-force limitations so encumbering when animals are onboard. Also AI will notice that flying weapons systems like frontline fighters are much more effective without meat in the cockpit. We will know there are problems when the off switch becomes unreachable
There’s a line in David Brin’s “Existence” from a benevolent AI, “You knew how dangerous we were and you built us anyway. We respect that.” Let’s hope.
