1 Gotta watch out for them caddies. Right Bozo?

2 Bozo gets that early start he wanted.

3 Those kids should have known better than to start off smoking with Bozo’s brand of cigars.

    1) I only see Fuzzy around, it MUST be him!

    2) Double safety to wake-up on time

    3) They wanted to quality check the cigars before offering to their dad.

Bogey man. Sand man. Sad man. I find cigars to be a fine diet aid. Smoke instead of eating and the taste(and slight nausea) keeps me from wanting food for an hour or two.

I still have an old cigar box. We’d have to bring a cigar box with our school supplies to class and store them in our assigned cubby. I was aways partial to the White Owl boxes, I could find them made from balsa wood instead of heavy cardboard.

Created in 1921, “Bozo,” the original pantomime comic strip, was published weekly in the Richmond (Virginia) Times-Dispatch from 1925 tho 1945. Bozo fought both the Nazis and the Japs for the four years of World War II and was rewarded with International syndication at war’s end by the Chicago Sun-Times Syndicate (Field Enterprises.). The strip was carried by the Boston Globe, the Philadelphia Inquire, the Cincinnati Enquirer and many other papers. It was particularly popular in France and Japan.

It’s creator, Foxo Reardon, my dad, never held a job title other than that of “cartoonist.” It would not be too much of a stretch to say that he was born with a drawing pen in one hand and a bottle of India ink in the other. Please check out my interview with GoComics by clickling the GoComicsBlog below and scrolling down a bit. Also check out “The Daily Cartoonist” and do a search on “Bozo by Foxo” at that website.

Bozo was also carried by the “Stars and Strips,” the newspaper of the United States Armed Forces and was very popular with our men and women in uniform. A hundred of those wartime strips can be found in my book, “WHISTLING DOWN THE HALLS: The Times and Cartoons of America’s Original Pantomime Comic Strip Artist,” a 260-page book that contains about 800 cartoons by Foxo Reardon, including 500 syndicated Bozo strips. It is available at,,, and other Internet outlets. If ordering, please enter the name of Foxo Reardon along with the name of the book. And many thanks for ordering and for being a Bozo follower.

LOST & FOUND- Oh Fiddle Faddle hit into the rough, clubs will be easy to finde due to FOXO’s 3 rocks, 3 threes in brush, and closest tree has a limb cut off….Bozo was ROBBED. EARLY RISER- Well, it could be a FLOP HOUSE, or the Gentlemen’s Club at the Golf Course, but sad our Hero was kicked out on Friday 13th. DADDY’s LITTLE MEN- Bozo’s heart is in the right place, but forgets boys want to be grown and be like their father, (smokin, drinkin, well that is enough said) so they have to act it out only to turn green and sick.

    The unfairway. The morning after.

And I choose to believe that there’s a cigar floating over Bozo’s head in that panel. (I’m not listening to you! LA LA LA!)

    1) LOST THINGS: Bozo hit a ball into the tall grass. He finds the ball and returns to find all his clubs missing!

    2) BED MISTAKE: Late at night, Bozo ready for bed only he gets into someone else’s who doesn’t like his alarm and boots Bozo out the window!

    3) BAD SMOKING KIDS: Father’s Day and 2 boys give Bozo a cigar as a present. Later the boys find out smoking cigars can knock you on your keester dizzy and sick.
