Oh okay so it WASN’T the trauma of the eye surgery. I’m not upset at being wrong.

That said cudos to a LOT of you for calling this: they were going to be split up, and so they understandably ran. It’s genuinely sad yet touching. And also has a happy ending as sight as I happen to know a big pink house that would gladly take even more cats into their extended family of choice.

I’ve always thought if I am ever cat-less I would adopt a bonded pair or 2or3 siblings. Twig isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, she likes being my only child. Still kind of miffed at me for taking care of a friends tiny little dog for 3 days. She’s bigger than he is.

It would be cruel to split up a bonded pair. Even if I didn’t already know they’re going to, I’d say that the people must adopt them both.

Ora Z: But don’t the Royal Providers provide everything?

Puckmosis: Yes, and they’ll be doing their part. But I need you to get some special provisions. After all, they can only be in four places at once.

Ora Z: Where do you want me to go?

Puckmosis: Thomios’ Uncle Floofnet the Joyous has a culinary school not far from Afar. Would you like to accompany Kara and Vann and me to get Uncle Floof’s famous Gratitude Kibble Pies?

Last night Keith Olbermann’s Countdown podcast concluded with the story of his dog Mishu, who died a year ago this week of a rare heart condition. I want you to be able to hear Mishu’s story. As he says, it is both heartbreaking and heartwarming, and it has several uplifting and even funny postscripts.

Countdown is very political and controversial, but Keith is also extremely devoted to his dogs and has a dedicated twitter (Tom Jumbo-Grumbo) to help rescue dogs and cats. I’m not gonna link to his podcast. I’ll just say that if you want to hear it, find his November 10 Countdown podcast online and fast forward to 23:14 where Mishu’s story begins. Take kleenex.

If this is not appropriate I will delete it.

Our Merlin and Leo were a bonded pair (and brothers) when we adopted them 18 yrs ago. They’d been at the shelter for 9 months. Merlin was terrified of his own shadow. We went there for Leo but when we saw how Merlin was when Leo was taken away from him we left with both. Because they were born feral and spent so much time caged it took literally years for Merlin to let anyone touch him (vet visits had to be at home, and were rough). But now Leo is gone over the bridge (early 2020) and Merlin is still sitting next to me, reaching out a paw on occasion to see if I’m here. When his Daddy (my hubby) gets home he comes to life and meows til he is on his lap for the evening. For an old guy who had a rough start and lost his brother along the way he’s doing ok at 19 next month. (Or at least that’s the b-day we gave him, not knowing for real). Anyway, this one touched me. You can’t break up a bonded pair if you can help it.

I’m not looking forward to the day Maverick crosses the Bridge (he is around 12 years old), not just because the Woman will be inconsolable, but because I don’t think Ember is going to know what to do with herself, as he’s been her big brother since she was four months old.

I got my 2 feral kittens at the shelter and wouldn’t think of splitting them up. They were all they had for their entire 12 weeks of life. They were still wild and I knew they would be hard to adopt. Still shy but great kitties 7 years later.

Aw! Cuties! I agree with everyone here that Tommy’s Woman and the Quinn Shelter would never split up a bonded pair, but these kittens probably don’t know enough human words to realize that yet, or they may have misunderstood something. And I want to say THANK YOU to Georgia for getting the phrase “bonded pair” out into the world in a place even non-cat people might see it! Far too many people (still!) believe that cats are “aloof” and don’t form emotional bonds to each other. Not so! Not so at all! Love to see the truth out there.

The exact reason we have our two canine children. The shelter didn’t want to separate them and most people only wanted to adopt one or the other of them. We gladly took them both and have never regretted it for a second. Far too many people adopt for their own pleasures and not for the good of the animal(s) they are adopting.

Here we get another genuine grin out of Iggy, and it is so sweet. They fit very well together, and it reminds me of the dynamic I had with my best friend growing up: the thoughtful, careful kid and the impulsive adventurer who constantly got us into trouble, but not too much. It is fantastic that they are by far the most open when talking about their bond and I look forward to the hopeful moment they find out they can stay together.

Best reason ever. After I had been catless for 48 hours, I told my wife we were going to the shelter. There was one big room containing 20 cats with about a six-month spread in ages. The youngest cat, a tabby, was zooming around trying to get the other cats to play with him. Only one of the cats (the beautiful grey-and-white male shown in my avatar) bothered to interact with him. After assuring myself that I was not imagining the association, those were the two cats I chose.

Johnny Depp and Kirby, even though not from the same litter, bonder closer than any two cats I have ever had. They slept and groomed together and went walking with me everywhere from twilight suburban neighborhoods to California redwood forests. I could always count on one to help me find the other, when he got temporarily lost.

If you find a bonded pair, hang on to that treasure.

I’ve always believed in you get two so they have someone when you can’t pay attention to them. We’ve only got Simon because he is a violent cat. We tried when he was a kitten and he immediately went for the other kittens throat, and not in a playful way. Luckily I was able to pry him off before he did any damage. And he’s big, so if we did try again it would have to be a calm, male alpha cat like my Snow was and over 15 lbs.

We take care of a bonded pair of feral cats that have our backyard and patio as their headquarters. The older cat, Shadow, is male and we met him when the female cat, Pepper, was in heat in our backyard and being menaced by a large male cat we called Crescent. Shadow was defending her. We think she was already pregnant (Shadow had the notched ear indicating that he had already been fixed, so he wasn’t the father). We managed to capture Pepper and take her to be fixed, which is when it was revealed that she already had gotten pregnant. It was early enough that they did the procedure anyway. The two cats sleep together in beds we provide on our patio, except in the heat of the summer!, and frequently hang out together during the day.

Undead and werewolf carrying one of those broken heart best friends jewelry. How adoreable.

Where’s a waste paper basket? Them being best friends I like. Just the jewelry is sickening to me now. One of those things that’s been so over done when it reaches the point where they’re making special jewelry for that purpose. Kinda prefer actually taking and deliberately breaking something for that purpose, feel it has more meaning.

My parents went to get a dog from the shelter, and decided on this adorable Shizue named Nola. The shelter told them that she had some anxiety and that they put her in with another Shizue; Reva, to keep her calm and maybe they could foster her for a week or so; until the other one got adjusted to the new home.Come time for Reva to go back Momma said if they came for ether dog she would meet them at the door with a shotgun, and she hates guns. Those two were closer than sister, 15 years later Reva passed away and Nola joined her a few days later.
