    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Beatrixia: Hi, everyone. Watcha all doing?

Puckmosis: The Papyrus Cat delivered an odd-looking scroll. It appears to be very old, and the return hieroglyph reads “Jamila.”

Bea: Seems to me I’ve heard that name before. Maybe when I was cataloging one of the libraries.

Violet-Ifa: Let’s start at the No Longer Hidden Library at the Great Pyramid.

Bea: Alright. We’ll start in the 900s with History and Geography, and concentrate on the 921 biography.

Violet-Ifa: Alright! Who wants to go to the Great Pyramid?

Bea: I think Elvis and Soph should definitely go, since it’s their project.

Alice-Ata: And you’re going to need the Procurers as well.

Puckmosis: And I think we need a cat of adventure.

Bea: But Lupinium is in Afar at an acrobatics conference.

    Puckmosis: There is another one.

    Ora Z: It’s the Little O, Don’t ya know!

I already like all this, especially getting to see Sophie participate in a broadcast like this.. I mean she has plenty before, but its more for her pieces. A live reading is something diffrent. The anxious ahem gave me life. Also awwww Ora.

Twitter from Dr. Scuttles: “A sunny winter day here. That Man took me for a walk in a few patient circles in the backyard. The sun felt nice on my shell. Dead, stiff winter grass felt nice under my claws. A good day.”

Wonderful! This will certainly push it another generation back. Angus and Lady Jane were here when Baba first arrived, so which cats were here for Lady Jane? I cannot wait to find out! Also, her portrait is lovely. Sophie definitely identifies with a fellow artist.

You coaxed the blues right out of the page, Jane

Sophie puts you right on the news stage, Jane

You’ve got Ora hintin’ that you lent her and Ig a helpin’ hand

The cat population’s touched since Sophie shared your pain with pink house land.

You made your troubles easy to feel, Jane

You gave your history power to heal, Jane

You make sweet sensitive Sophie’s outlook brighten at the mention of your name.

You’ll make her feel alive again, you’ll give her the drive again

To make her art revive again, Jane.

Your special fascination’ll prove to be inspirational,

    She thinks you’re just sensational,

Chapter 4. Sylvia gets an education

Lady Jane and Sylvia sat themselves at the far end of the dining room, away from the others where they could have a quiet, intimate conversation, The repartee interspersed with bouts of laughter being distracting to Lady Jane and her new found guest.

“If you don’t mind my asking Lady Jane, how did you become the proprietor of this grand Big Pink House?” Sylvia enquired between bites a much craved, and most deliciously filling breakfast.

“Well my dear,” Lady Jane began, “I too was much like you not so many years ago. I was alone, abandoned to the world with no one left to care what happened to me, struggling just to survive one day to the next. I happen upon this house, it wasn’t pink back then. The owner took pity on me and took me in. She was kind and wonderful to me, nursing me back to health. I felt a debt to her for all she had done and endeavored to find a way to repay her most generous hospitality, poor and with no prospects as I was.”

“She introduced me to the idea of providing entertainment to others. Those in need of a little assuagement, as they go through their dreary lives.” Lady Jane continued. “She taught me the tricks of the trade, how to quickly do what one must, and then move on. To avoid emotional attachments, to remain completely business minded while remaining a lady. In time, I rose to the top of my newly chosen profession, and when she could no longer operate this establishment any longer, she left it to me. I have been here ever since providing a service to others taught to me those many years ago.”

“Now tell me about yourself, sweet, lovely Sylvia” queried Lady Jane.

Folks, a moment of silence and purrs for pretty Morticia, who passed quietly at the vet’s today. We’d known she had cancer, but she was doing well for months on the prednisolone with occasional mirtazipine for an appetite stimulant.

Last Friday she was off her chow, so I took her in for mirtazipine (she wouldn’t tolerate the ear rub). That helped somewhat on Saturday, but Sunday she was again not eating. This morning she was not only weak, but clearly in pain so I called and made the appointment.

Terribly hard to do, but also terribly hard to watch her in pain. Farewell little sweetie, I wish you’d been with me longer!

Some replies by Dr. Scuttles to commenters. I thought the whole thread was worth putting out to Georgia’s fans.

Dr. Scuttles: “A sunny winter day here. That Man took me for a walk in a few patient circles in the backyard. The sun felt nice on my shell. Dead, stiff winter grass felt nice under my claws. A good day.”

Commenter: “Dead grass here feels almost like briars, I’d love to replace it with moss.”

Dr. S: “Moss is indeed much preferable.”

Another commenter: “Will you move outside once the weather is nice enough?”

Dr. S: “On sunny days, many times yes. A long ago leg injury leaves me more unguarded than I am comfortable with outside for long stints… I am looking forward to walks in the yard and time in the outside kiddie pool this spring and summer, though.”
