So lovely to see all the cats (and others), past and present, enjoying such a beautiful tree. If I close my eyes I can just about smell it’s blooms.

Oooo SO pretty!!! Is it perchance a cherry blossom tree? ✿✿✿ Those are among my most favourite trees! We have so many here in Christchurch, NZ in my immediate area. There’s a park not too far away from where I live that is lined all along one side with cherry blossom trees. As soon as Spring returns to Christchurch, their gorgeous pink heads show their glory all down that long main road. ❤ My most favourite tree is the Texas Mountain Laurel whose aroma is that of intoxicating wine!

    A Shropshire Lad 2, by A. E. Housman

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now

Is hung with bloom along the bough,

And stands about the woodland ride

    Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,

    Twenty will not come again,

And take from seventy springs a score,

It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom

    Fifty springs are little room,

About the woodlands I will go

To see the cherry hung with snow.

This makes me think wistfully of our cherry tree. It would be covered in beautiful white blossoms this time of year.

A variety of factors contributed to its demise after 15 faithful years of bearing fruit and with much sorrow, we had it cut down last week.

We saved a good portion of the trunk, so Albert’s Man can make something with the wood.

Since last summer, when I suspected the tree wasn’t going to recover, I have been raising Baby Tree in a tub. Now that Venerable Tree has gone to its final reward, I’ll plant Baby Tree in its place.

It will be some years until we have the bountiful harvests of the past, but there will be cherries again.

There is a monster of a tree at the end of my driveway, it’s almost 4 feet at the trunk and around 10+ ft in circumference. An arborist told us it was at least 175–200 years old, and it somehow survived the widening of the main roadway 5 times in the last 125 years. I hope it will still be here after I am long gone. There is so little here that is close to being that old in my county that is still around.

When I moved into this house, there were five large oaks in the yard, the largest 5 feet in diameter. All are now gone, though the firewood from the last will be with us for years more. The oldest was at least 200 years old by tree ring count, but the center was rotted, so we are missing about two feet of tree rings. There are now two young oaks sprouted from acorns and planted by us.

    Atlantic Starr: Masterpiece

The old now tree is in full bloom

    With blossoms pink and white

The air is full of sweet perfume

    The morning sky’s alight!

Climbing through the branches, or sleeping underneath,

And now I give my thanks, give my thanks

The countless arbor joys we find

The love we find right here

For humans and for all creatures

    Throughout the countless years

For now and for the future

    Everything we see

And now I give my thanks, give my thanks,

    …….

I’ve found a masterpiece right here

A work of art, it’s clear

    That I’ll treasure for always!

Okay, can’t remember all the ghost cats names. I know Tillie (in the tree, in the hat). And the mouse, Agatha. I remember the Scotsman reporter as Angus??? Don’t remember the other two (girl being chased and the boy). And of course, we have Thimblefist and Homestyle up in the tree.

Oh, by the way, there are 8 cats, down from 9 cats, and 3 dogs in my household. They are all loved. Three have never completely lost their feral nature; Georgie, Mimi, and CB (Calendar Bob), all rescues. It seems that this would be a site where you could post pictures of your Kittens and cats. Good day and happy Orthodox Easter!

HELLO EVERYONE!! I’m sorry I have been missing from the comments for a bit! I managed to somehow lock myself out from my account (a reoccurring theme… just lucky I guess, lol! Many thanks to the tech folks at GoComics for getting me back in). And then on top of that, the kids and I caught norovirus last week! WHEW! That was NOT GREAT, lol! A week of classic strips are coming in the near future, because I had to take the week to care for the Girl, the Boy, and then myself. Thankfully, we’re all recovered! I’m delighted to be back here in the comments, and glad so many of you enjoyed this Sunday strip. It was so much fun to paint! Happy Sunday!

Thank you, Georgia, for resisting the urge to mention that today is Cinco de Mayo. As a reminder to the Orbsters, this is not Mexican Independence Day; that falls in September. Today is merely the anniversary of a battle won by the Mexican army. To give some context, it would be similar to the USA, celebrating the anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg.
