Did you know that per head of population in a country, there is a strong correlation between quantity of chocolate consumption and the number of Nobel prize winners? Switzerland comes out top on both. :-)
If I see an ad for something that I don’t recognize, and click on it just to find out what it is, then I get constant notifications from Amazon. “We found something we think you’ll like! A left handed widget tightener.”
The whole targeted sales market is creepy and I absolutely never respond to advertising online. I won’t use Alexa or Siri or even Google Assistant because of potential ads targeted to conversations. All device mics are turned off and the laptop’s camera lens is covered. Nobody has privacy anymore, but no point making it easy for them.
I do not understand why everybody isn’t just blocking ads and turning off the location apps on their machines. Both are easy to do and make life online so much quieter.
To take the other view, I much prefer to see adverts for things that MIGHT have some relevance to me, rather than stuff I would never be able or willing to buy.
No, I don’t want to hear about a service only available in the USA, ads written in German, or feminine hygiene products.

My wife keeps trying to convince me that while men may like chocolate, women actually require it. She calls it a food group.

Much better than the underwear ads I keep getting on GoComics…

This is why I don’t have a “smart TV”. Mostly it’s a jukebox/vending machine that ties you into proprietary technologies and online vendors.

That would be one time when you wished your ad blocker would say “Are you sure you want to block this”.

Don’t think of it as an invasion of privacy, Pam. It’s more like a… peace offering.
