Big scam #422: charging for bags! If the stores were really serious about “saving the world from evil plastic bags” they wouldn’t offer them and charge for them!

What the last 2 generations are ignorant of is the fact that company accountants hate the thought of giving away something for free if they can get away with charging the public for it. Case in point: I worked for The Bay in the ’70’s and some time around 1975 the accountants tried to figure out how they were going to convince the public they should be paying 5 cents per bag. Of course, it didn’t fly. Now, they are riding on the excuse that they are doing something for the planet. No, they are NOT. Even our local BC Liquor store wants an exorbitant 25 cents for a doggone PAPER BAG!

By all means, if you’ve got your own bag, bring it. But PLEASE people STOP PAYING THEM FOR THEIRS!

I saw a bunch of funny pictures, apparently Thailand banned plastic shopping bags and partly in protest partly just for the fun of it the people there have made it a trend to collect their groceries in whatever random containers they can find from laundry baskets to suitcases, hampers to plant pots, buckets to wheelbarrows, gift bags to trash cans, even saw 1 person using a big traffic cone!

If I get sent to that place after I pass, at least I’ll be among friends. No humans are infallible, so we should all end up down there.

Buni should be able to buy a reusable bag at that store.

I keep forgetting my bag in the car. I have 3 of them, but I can’t seem to remember to grab one when I exit the car.

That one plastic bag was apparently the tipping point; the world went all Mad Max and the clerk’s own clothing was reduced to rags even before Buni got home!

I was at a checkout behind someone – the clerk asked ‘Paper or plastic?’ and the guy sniffed ’I’ll take whatever doesn’t ruin the planet!‘. I should’ve said ‘So bring your own bag, Van Driesen!’

I have never seen a check out person guilt anyone for bags. I fact I have had to say “no bag thanks” multiple times.

Today, I bought 2 Walmart re-usable bags, 50 cents each, made in Cambodia…So I helped save the planet, and feed someone in another country at the same time….but I also had to drive my gas powered van to said store to get my groceries…I am so torn!!! The guilt!!! Woe is me!!!

stop me if you’ve heard me tell this before. i always smile now when the cashier asks if we need a bag because i was using my backpack (and my bicycle) for shopping four decades ago in tokyo and in those days gone by often going back and forth with the ^%$ suspicious clerks, assuring them, no, i really, really don’t need a plastic bag…

Ironic when you think about that a large majority of the individual food products sold at a grocery store, already come in their own plastic bag….
