Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for August 10, 1989
Transcript:
Mom: What kind of dinosaur did you say this was? Calvin: It's a stegosaurus! Mom: He looks pretty ferocious. Calvin: No, he was a plant eater. The tail wpikes were for self-defense. Mom: Oh, did tyrannosaurs fight these? Calvin: Of course not, Mom! Tyrannosaurs came millions of years later! Look, try not to embarrass me when we go inside, Ok? Dad: Why are we going here if he already know everything?

More proof that Calvin is capable of outstanding scholarship when properly motivated. If no one makes you do it, then it’s fun!

Most really deep scholars simply need to know what they study. It’s all in the motivation.

When I was 10, my parents and I were in Madrid for two or three weeks. Mom and I spent much time at the Prado (art museum). At the time I knew as much about Greek myths as Calvin knows about dinosaurs, and she remarked many years later that I explained a number paintings.
