Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for August 18, 1992
Transcript:
Mom: Goodness, you look tired. Calvin: The monsters under my bed kept me up all night. Mom: But I checked for monsters when I tucked you in...and there weren't any. Calvin: I know. Mom: Then how did they get there after I left? Calvin: You want me to crawl under and ask them?!
Since Calvin sometimes fantasizes about shrinking to insect size, and once fantasized about outgrowing the planet, I’m surprised that in the third panel, he didn’t respond with something like, “Monsters are very mysterious. These particular ones must have had the power to shrink to microscopic size when you checked for them, and then grow back to full size after you left”.
