kreole: In Calvin’s life, Hobbes’ tail is a stabilizer for balance when he’s chasing…Calvin. Same thing.
Uh, folks, be careful what you wish for. If we had a tail we wouldn’t be able to walk upright, because the bones are reworked and have had new muscle attachments made. I’ll take walking upright.
What tigers will never let on is that humans can outwalk just about anything in the animal kingdom.
Macushlalondra: my favorite tail-talk is when my Siamese makes a question mark. It means, “What’s up?”
I forget how many bones are in a cat’s tail, but tails must be very important to be made so articulate.
Interestingly, I just realized that “articulate” means “having a joint” as well as “well spoken.”
Tails on any creature is to balance them when they perform physical acts that we tailless left behinds are unable to do. Tails on humans would be very inconvenient and could even prevent some of the less ambitious of our species from planting their oversized butts on the couch or in a recliner all Sunday afternoon to watch NFL, MLB or NASCAR events on TV.
Is a tail an evolutionary digression that didn’t work out?
Actually, it did ‘work out’ or it wouldn’t be there, would it?
What are the chances of its happening by chance?
How many ways can the above comment(s) be perceived?
The comic itself is perceived in many ways by numerous readers. The problems come when someone thinks his/her way or viewpoint is the only right one but can’t back it up with logic, reason, facts, and ultimately truth. Even then, not everyone will agree.
Regarding your response to my comment of yesterday…
Your humor reminds me of a scene from a movie I saw many years ago.
Edit: Background of scene deleted.
In the movie, a man “apologized” to some former prostitutes for having referred to them as “whores” by listing all the other terms he could have used.
This was hardly conducive to making the women feel any good will towards him.
You reap what you sow. The form of humor you used is of the type that sows ill will. It is dishonest of you to protest when you harvest what you planted.
Basically, you can dish it out, but you can’t take it.
I have to admit I’m not a big fan of the religious postings myself. I agree to a point with Aardvark that we live in a free society and we should all be allowed to post our musings. What I disagree with for both sides is the smugness of our convictions. Can we please leave that behind and enjoy our daily Calvin and Hobbes fix.
@Maizing - Wow! What an interesting day! Puddleglum2 posts a short, eloquent statement about logic, reason & facts and you post a long-winded, judgmental diatribe which has about as much place on a comics chat page as a laundry list of biblical quotations.
But that’s your right. It’s not funny or interesting but that’s what I’ve got a scroll key for. Keep working on it. A few more rambling posts like that and I’m sure that I’ll begin to reap a little comedy out of your sowings as well!
CatComixzStudios–There are things on human beings back there that they get to “”show off” without walking backwards. Although some are not worth looking at!
Aardvark can defend himself all he wants. His attempt to ‘defend’ Puddleglum2’s rights was a very poor attempt at a veiled insult. If I give you a diseased blanket I have no right to claim that I kept you warm. The notion of defending others right to free speech is a noble one. Do not disrespect and dishonor it by hiding behind it and hurling insults.
@Albert2010-Actually, we do have tails; thy’re just really, really short and hidden under our skin. Bruise or break your tailbone some day and you will never forget you have that little tail at the tail (!) end of your spine.

I know my boss uses his tie to stop any oxygen getting to his brain, so does Hobbes’ “tie” cause constipation?

We used to have tails but we were taxed according to how long they were until we finally had our tails taxed right off.

In real life, the tail is a stabilizer for balance when the tiger is chasing prey. With Calvin, it is a butt necktie.

This strip is one of my favorites…Calvin telling Hobbes his tail is a necktie for his butt. Is that a simile?

Musmo: It’s a metaphor: a simile uses the words “like”, “such” or “as” in it.
When Calvin says, “It’s sort of a necktie for your butt,” isn’t that the same as saying, “It’s like a necktie for your butt”?
