Only with Calvin & Hobbes can a storyline like this fall under the sweet category.
I miss Corduroy Pants
Corduroy… reminds me of that children’s book of teddy bear of the same name whose overalls are missing a button.
Rabbit ears? How old is this strip? I know they’re coming back in urban areas because cable and satellite providers are pricing themselves out of a lot of people’ budgets (free advice: try Roku), but still…
Wasn’t there a movie where this was partly the plot? The parents were aliens? Open new tab google.
Wait a sec. Those aren’t corduroy lines. They look more like a waffle pattern.
Plot twist: Calvin is still dreaming!
I can’t believe that no one has commented on the similarity between this cartoon from 1990 and today…
None of us can go out… visit friends… relations… cinemas… restaurants… etc… Everyone has been forced to become individual family units… sitting at home… watching TV… together…
At least today we have Netflix… Prime… etc. and I’ve a whole library of books I haven’t read yet or deserve a second reading…
For them young nits, Rabbit ears = T.V. aerial (set top)
Corduroy pants……also known as “whistle britches” where I grew up.
So – that butter you were rubbing on him at the beach wasn’t for a sun tan?
Homemade waffles, mmmmm.
Best part of the day….
I am surprised that no one mentioned the rabbit ears.
It took me a while to figure out the rabbit ears… and we used to have them.
To sleep, perchance to dream…
Corduroy pillows. They’re making headlines.
Speaking of pants…one of my favorite commercials…
Where was Hobbes in all this?
For the younkers in the crowd… rabbit ears were a type of indoor TV antenna
Broke the rabbit ears? Someone at PETA is probably having a cow right now! LOL
Always one of my favorites…
Are Earth boy waffles as good as Girl Scout cookies?
I bet that nightmare inspired Calvin to come up with this poem later on…
The funniest of today.
I refused to read this strip when I was younger.
Have you heard about the new corduroy pillows? They’re making headlines.
Fantastic drawing in panel five!
WE actually had cable, In the 60’s and 70’s! No CNN or ESPN of course, but we got 12 channels, crystal clear. Even stations from NYC, WPIX and the Yankees, WOR and the Mets. never had Rabbit Ears or the ugly aerial tacked to the house.
I’ve got TWO pairs!!!! That I still wear…
Interesting reveal…explains a few things about Calvin…
Check the back of their neck!
Bored to sleep.
Making that zip zip zip sound as you walked. Can’t say that I miss it.
