I wonder if Calvin became stockbroker who cold called little old ladies.

Maybe if Calvin was a crash test dummy, he’d be off to a good start.

Calvin sounds like the stock market. There is disaster after disaster yet the market goes up.

Now would be a good time to start the up and up, Calvin.

No valleys, no peaks, Calvin. If there were no valleys to make the peaks stand out, it’d all be flat.

With such a profound intellect and eloquent oratory skills, it doesn’t seem he needs Mrs. Wormwood after all, except for solving 3 + 4, which for some reason eludes him.

He’s rapidly going up towards the Earth!

I must be showing my age, but dull boring routine is pretty enjoyable. It’s predictable.

Calvin is about to be in for a rude awakening.

I am a very confident person. About 1/3 of my confidence comes from my successes. The other 2/3 come from my failures.

In other words, I learn twice as much from failure as I do success.

Calvin doesn’t realize it, but this is a peak too. A peak in his pulse rate.

Calvin should listen to the YES album “Keys to Ascension”, or Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground.”

Gravity is a harsh mistress.

Often it’s the boring times that we look back on with nostalgia

The third, fourth and fifth panels are so true.

When you fall headfirst, it looks to you like you’re going up.

I tend to picture the devil standing on his head and declaring everyone else beneath him.

Feels like my life is a neverending valley.

Yes, up and up… well, after this… small dip… ☺

I’d still be a bit prudent and pack a parachute anyway.

Tell it to the E.R. physician, Calvin!

There’s a story about a man who died. He found himself on an incredible golf course. Every hole was a hole in one. He decided to go fishing. Every throw of his line was a huge fish. Frustrated, he said to another fisherman, “I didn’t expect Heaven to be this boring.” The answer was, “Who said this was Heaven?”

Well, that’s 2 minutes I’ll never get back.

That’s the mindset that leads to dying of a heroine overdose at 22

I was ecstatic once. It involved a hole-in-one.

There’s no such thing as a never-ending orgasm, Calvin.

If there are no ups and downs in your life, it means you have flat-lined.

Your life will only be like that if you make it that way Calvin. And that means putting in the work to make it that way.

If you have a wingsuit or a prayer, now would be a good time to use either. Oh wait – the cartoonist will take care of Calvin – silly me!

Absolutely love this one. The philosophy, the art, the physical arc, and the final statement. Classic Calvin. (And so many people like him!)

I’ve known a few adrenaline junkies who ran their lives on a “peak to peak” basis. Some of them grew up to be tolerable people, including at least one who’s a famous photographer now… who does landscapes seen from some of those peaks. Some of them crashed (including a few who died). And some of them, still, at retirement age are wondering why they never achieved anything worthwhile.

Why does this six year old inspire me to lead life, one big leap after another?
