And the cherry on top was Mom got to the door before Hobbes.
Coming home from school is always the best part, isn’t it?
Beats the Hell outta Mr. Mitty’s day. (pocketa-pocketa)
Her also turned on the Tiger Cloaking Device.
Why are all the planets Spaceman Spiff visits desert planets? I might have forgotten some, but I don’t recall him visiting planets with vegetation.
Calvin’s mom will get a phone call, your son left class before the bell rang, again!
Spiff the Spaceman has his uses. No sign of the school bus……
Safety and full protection from all outside forces is hereby granted. Also, an after school snack is provided.
These days kids with their face in their phone travel home the same way.
I could use a gamma beam macerator.
Calvin’s school ends at 2:30? Elementary school ended at 3:00 for me.
He was just Spiffing around!
Love the look of the “Fwoom” panel…
Calvin made a Spiffy exit from the classroom, and managed to get home without an orange blur welcoming him.
I happen to know that daydreaming my way through school is relatively entertaining, but not very productive. TV input is much more satisfying. I wish I could’ve figured out a way to make TV watching a career.
Quibble here but – why does the spaceship need a steering wheel? It doesn’t have wheels!
At least the lad is honest.
Great way to travel home…
As a student, coming home from school was often a relief. But I later found the same was true on upon returning to the barracks after duty, or home from the office, and also, later, when I returned home from daily stints in my classrooms.
In the first years of retirement, relief came every August, when I realized no longer had to report to school and trek through all the new rules and ‘great philosophical adjustments’ that had been made by the USDofE and the mostly confused school board. That faded years ago and now it’s just a relief to know that’s all in the past.
Nowadays I find relief and laughter in reading Calvin and a dozen or so other comics and to know that at least some part of the world still treasures a sense of humor.
I also enjoy reading the comments of fellow appreciators. Some of them are funnier than the comics. Makes for a great start in each day.
After all these years, I still love the C&H Sunday Spaceman Spiff episodes!
Anybody else, besides me, catch the Major Tom reference?
It is more interesting if you take the scenic route. I was expected home at a certain time. So, I would walk my girlfriend home on the opposite side of town and run like crazy to get home. I was in terrific shape. :)
And “The Final Countdown” plays on a continuous loop.
A flying desk, maybe?
Great art! Always and colorful on Sundays…
Good thing he checked the defogger. You don’t want all that moisture in deep space fogging up your windshield!
Earth below us,
Coming, coming hooooome…
It’s too bad that kids may never again experience the pleasures of just dawdling on the way back from school.
For a normal six year old coming home to mother from school is the finest experiences… which we middle aged people can only cherish. For Calvin, the brillant art work of Bill is apt.
A flight of imagination makes one’s heart soar.
@codycab- Summer vacation was much better!
How come he rides the bus when he goes TO school, but not when he comes home?
I still get a kick out of the widow defogger check…
You mean he can land without crashing?
