That “thing” was home free but then it had to sing.

This has to be one of the funniest C&H strips, which is saying a lot.

Another of the great Sunday strips. The Green dinner glop, quoting Hamlet, stabbing itself with a fork and then singing that insufferable Morris Albert tune. Genius

Bill Watterson includes this strip in Calvin and Hobbes Sunday Pages 1985-95. He explains, “This is one of the weirdest strips I ever drew. I’m not sure I fully understand it myself but it made me laugh. So there you are.”

Thank you for a MOST enjoyable strip. Never have I heard Shakespeare played better as a meaningful insight to which English teachers across the globe might aspire. Alas, though an octet of decades have paraded by since first I trod this mortal coil, the depth of these elegant prose seems to ring more true as the sands of time turn from a srickle to a torrent. Perhaps to dream.Thank you.

I hadn’t read Hamlet until I was in high school, the fact that Calvin would know the accurate monologue is rather impressive for a 6 year old. (I’m not counting parodies or pop culture references of the time because aside from the “to be or not to be” line the text wouldn’t be so accurately represented)

If anyone remembers the sitcom Dinosaurs, which ran in the early 90s, there was an episode where one character recites Shakespeare. It was very funny considering he was a guy wearing a dinosaur suit

Too bad Calvin ate it. It could have teamed up with Michigan J Frog, the singing frog from Warner Brothers cartoons, and gone on the road. They’re both green and they both sing. He’s not green, but Hobbes could sing backup with the “rum-tum-tums.”
