Just what Calvin needed! He seems so lethargic lately.

So it’s a good alternative to Dad’s morning coffee!

I actually tried to get as much caffeine as possible before going to school. Some days were actually better than others.

“Buzzy” to get your buzz on…..

Those sugar bombs are what animate Hobbes in Calvin’s head.

My younger brother and I used to love Coco Puffs with chocolate milk.

Hummingbirds are known for having a high metabolism and eating a lot of sugary nectar, so it makes sense a hummingbird would be the mascot of such a sugary cereal.

Calvin should take advice from Hobbes. There’s a reason tigers don’t hunt in the cereal section.

And we wonder why Calvin acts up at times

i don’t get this… his parents seem like good parents except they allow him to eat this poison?

I wonder if real-life cereals (Cocoa Puffs, Count Chocula, etc.) are so heavily caffeinated.

Definitely a suitable mascot for CFSB.

When they used to pack a toy in the box I’d open the package from bottom to get to the toy quicker.

And to think my mother wouldn’t let us drink coffee but she’d let us eat this!

Calvin is about 10 years away from pouring a Busch Light in a bowl of Wheaties and pulling on his work boots. Enjoy the sugar bombs little man!

I don’t think I ever bothered checking the ingredients of most packaged food, back in the day.

“Action figure”. Dolls are so passive.

They put a little grain in the box of sugar so they can label it CEREAL!

My wife taught students with special needs, including ADD and ADHD kids. One of the most common medications for ADD-ADHD at that time was ritalin, which ironically enough is a stimulant. One of the problems with ritalin is that it metabolizes quickly, so it tends to wear off fast. As a result, the teachers would have to medicate the kids during the day (with doctor’s and parental permission, of course).

One of my wife’s students was an ADHD kid who came from a Christian Scientist family, who wouldn’t allow any medication. The kid was totally off the wall during the day, and nobody knew what to do with him. Somebody in the teacher’s lounge mentioned that there’s tons of caffein in cola. They asked the parents if it was ok for the kid to have cola during the day, and they agreed.

Worked like a charm.

Kids cereal doesn’t have caffeine in it, although it would explain a lot about me as a kid. LOL

Cartoonists who write about kids tend to use the era of their own childhood for gags. It’s hard to avoid. ‘Sugar’ would have been common in cereal names when Watterson was a kid (and when I was as well.) By the time this strip was published, it had virtually disappeared. Long-running cereals had been renamed to avoid saying ‘sugar’

For me, there was healthy cereal I ate had a chance for a free box, had to purchase several, husband question that, I told him I already eating that for breakfast, gained the regular required from the cereal box and required amount did order. Was not what Calvin eats, I never go to sleep, I be too jittery

Years ago, I was checking nutrition labels of breakfast cereals. Even the cereal that Mikey likes was 19% sugar. One product was 60% sugar.

I look to buy breakfast cereal with no added sugar. That is, the only sugar is naturally part of some other ingredient, such as wheat. I regard honey as added sugar.

Makes you nostalgic for those heady days of 1994 doesn’t. Not a care in the world, the good old days right? ;-)

I’m pretty sure that’s the maximum daily allowance.
