Calvin must really be good at hitting that ball. I’m not convinced a tennis ball would go any further than an actually hardball baseball when hit well. Now a super ball on the other hand….
I remember playing baseball (wiffleball, actually) with a tennis ball a time or two as a kid, and while the ball was definitely lively, we weren’t constantly hitting it to the moon.
Calvin, there’s a funny round-headed kid a few blocks away who might like to have you on his team. But you would have to keep Hobbes away from his shortstop.

Move the bases further apart.

We used to sometimes play baseball with one of those highly elastic super balls. The only problem was finding the ball again after someone hit it.

Okay, get the croquet ball.

As I said earlier this week – I think it was on Tuesday – this is one of the rare strips where we see Calvin getting the better of Hobbes.

Try a croquet ball.

Surprised he hit it.

That’s why we used a mop handle as a bat when we played stickball. The ball was essentially a naked tennis ball.

We used to use rocks for bases too. Made the field somewhat irregular, as nature didn’t place them with baseball in mind.

A golf ball gives good range too.

Not as bad as a golf ball!!!!!

We used to play with the racquet as well. Everybody got a hit! The bigger kids could hit it clear over the house across the street.

AH HAH!!! He can hit a ball….LOL

How come he can hit a tennis ball, but not a real baseball?

So as soon as Calvin is winning, Hobbes wants to quit.
How ironic.
