Do people who see each other on a daily basis need words to communicate? Don’t grunts and scoffs and murmurs of agreement or disagreement fill in a conversation script just as well? It’s the tone of the sounds that convey a message. A few innocuous words here and there bridge the sounds with intended meaning.
This is particularly true at the beginning each day when one’s mind is on autopilot and might need a spark of caffeine for a jump start. But a small vocabulary is about all that’s needed, or even wanted, as one drifts among personal thoughts. It may be an irritation when other people don’t follow the normal script.
