Cathy: Uh, oh. Charlene: Uh, oh. Andrea: Uh, oh. Cathy: My fault. Charlene: My fault. Andrea: My fault. Cathy: I never actually finished my thank-you notes from last Christmas. Charlene: I never finished my wedding thank-yous. Andrea: My daughter just graduated from college, and there's a baby bonnet I never acknowledged. Cathy: I should have done it right after Christmas, but I was still addressing Christmas cards. Charlene: I couldn't decide what last name I was using, so I couldn't get any thank-you note cards printed. Andrea: I wanted to send a picture of Sara wearing the bonnet, but I never got a copy made. Cathy: Now I owe too big of an apology to even start! Charlene: The job is too huge. It looks over me! Andrea: It hangs over my head everywhere I go!! Cathy: That isn't a storm cloud! It's accumulated correspondence guilt!! Cathy: We've darkened another weekend for the whole country. Charlene: Now we owe 1,298,000 notes of apology. Andrea: At least no one can say women don't take responsibility.

When I was a small child, I used to worry that minor offenses were cumulative. My father was in the military and often gone for 90 days to year. I accumulated so many “wait till your father gets home” offenses that I was afraid they would add up to a capital offense. Of course, when Dad did get home, the last thing he was interested in doing was punishing four young boys for “expired” wrongs. :)

I firmly believe there is a “statute of limitations” for apologies and thank you’s. If you don’t do it within a week, forget it and just do something nice.

In these days of the Internet, take a picture of yourself wearing or using the gift and send a Thank You email.

Since the real world does not exist while I am on vacation I certainly do not sit around worrying about things I should have done. That worrying is best left for when I am trying to get to sleep when not on vacation.
I hope everyone is having a fun weekend and not worrying about the past.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda …
I understand where they’re coming from, but maybe they ought to just go ahead and knock out their to-do items instead of wishing they had? Easier said than done sometimes, but still.
HI, MOM. Happy Sunday, “Cathy” Clan.
