I have the privilege of knowing several jews, muslims, buddhists, and atheist. Not one of them has ever mentioned be offended by being wished a Merry Christmas, or for that matter a Happy Chanukah, or Wesak, or Ashura. Personally, I’m an athesit, but anybody wants to wish me well – I’LL TAKE IT!
You realize that people have been saying “Happy Holidays” and “Seasons Greetings” for over a hundred years, don’t you? This is not a new way of incorporating several holidays. The entire annual flap is stupid and pointless – it’s just folks getting upset for the sake of getting upset.
Walrus and Doc both bring the proper perspective:; if folks see a reason for peace, and love, in celebrating their season, and a caring for others, ALL others, then what you call the celebration matters not a whit. Now if everyone just accepted everyone else’s right to “celebrate”, and not just in their own way?
Hello DrCanuck,I’m with the Walrus and Howgozit on this one. If a person wants to say hello or Happy Hanakuh/Christmas/Kwanza/Solstice/Holidays, I’ll smile and at least say thanks. There is much more acceptance of the seasons greetings than there is resentment, and if greeting a stranger, any kindness is better than a stoic nod. That said—Have a safe and happy new year.Respectfully& Happy Holidayze, or Hollow days, or wholly dazed.C.
First time I ran into a situation like this I fractured the language in question pretty badly, but got a giggle and a grin for trying. (We’re still friend today and that was over 40 years ago.) Give it a try. If they take offense you wouldn’t want them for friends in the first place.
Even commentators on Fox – even “Reverend commentators” on Fox – are calling the fake “war” – silly.http://www.opposingviews.com/i/religion/christianity/hapless-holiday-hostilities-even-fox-news-commentator-says-war-christmas

How DARE he say “Happy New Year?” Doesn’t he know that the Chinese and the Jews have a different new year? How insensitive.

The Christians stole a lot of Christmas stuff from other religions, so I don’t mind stealing Christmas from the Christians.

I’ve decided that this year I’m going to wish everyone a “Merry Holidays” and a “Happy Christmas”. Just to mess with them.
Yeah, and the “War on Christmas” thing was invented by O’Reily and Lawyers, so…….

I like that one. “Happy Flying Spaghetti Monster Sauce Day.” (Of course, by the time you say it the season is over.)
