Joking about a woman’s alopecia, especially in a field where appearance is so critical, is tasteless, offensive bullying. This is especially true in the case of African American women for whom the issue of hair and how others relate to their hair, often in a culturally-oppressive manner. Their hair is no one else’s business.
Responding violently is also out of line.
Both Rock and Smith were wrong. Both have apologized.
In any case, if Chris Rock was going to insult someone’s wife, he shoulda picked Ted Cruz — that guy won’t defend his wife for shizzle!
The best response I saw to an African American woman being abused by lesser men (Cancún Cruz, Fist-pump Hawley or Graham Cracker who, unlike Chris Rock, were white to boot), was Dr. Patrick Graves Jackson, husband of Ketanji Brown Jackson, who simply held her close and tenderly kissed her in a comforting and reassuring manner.
Will Smith needs some anger management. His response was out of line and immature. Those of you supporting his actions are not helping. Next thing you know you will all be cheering on a kid who shoots some protesters in “self defense.” I’m glad I don’t live in the U.S.
Smith is a bully and a wimp. I dare say he would not have pulled that stunt on someone like the Rock, Chris Hemsworth, Staz Nair, Jason Momoa or anyone else that would have shoved it back down his throat.
I can’t get excited by an over-paid entertainer slapping another over-paid entertainer at a party for over-paid entertainers to say ‘Hey, look at us, we are overpaid entertainers’.
Way too much other much more serious stuff, like end of the world stuff, happening.
The former guy told people that violence was okay at his rallies. Not an original idea, as violence had been increasing steadily for a while, but a cheerleader for the uncivilized faction of our society. Partisanship, doubt, fear, distrust, disrespect, and violence have permeated a significant portion of our society and it is — like Covid-19 — contagious and evolving in a violent direction. We need a virtual vaccine that can help us fight back and restore common decency, honor, singular objective truth, dignity, mutual trust, and mutual respect for each other.
They both made bad decisions but both have apologized and moved on. And why is there so much reference to their race? That’s not an important factor unless a racist makes it so. This issue has generated much outrage from a few people here and several cartoonists as well but there are many, many issues today that are truly far more worthy of outrage than this petty squabble that was already over and done with as fast as it had happened. Move on. Get a life.
We must remember, they’re all actors and can cry on que….to me, after he laughed, it seemed it was a fake second reaction and decided to go for it! Chris Rock is a comedy man….if one is so sensitive to their jokes, then stay home. Classless as they come….the whole show!
I was more startled that enough people still watch the so-called Oscars for it to make the news. Who gives a freak flamin’ phuck what those entitled asses do to one another?
In the meanwhile are we to be distracted from Ginni Thomas’s role in the insurrection? Are we to ignore that Congress failed to continue federal funding of school lunches? Where’s the outrage that Rumoy the Clown yet again appealed to Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’ Pootin to dig up some dirt, and yet the Orange Clown miraculously lost hours of recordings of phone conversations (shades of Nixon’s Watergate missing tapes)?
I think the “SLAP” never really touched Chris, and that it all was staged between he and Will, even Jada. If you notice Will & Jada were laughing and then the camera shows Will slowly walking to the stage. Most of these award shows are so boring and slanted toward what film can win, that their TV Audience has dropped. If you notice Chris braces when he sees Will coming toward him. After the slap Chris never touches his face react like someone who has been attacked.
The significance this event has taken on in the media is ludicrous. Were talking about an incident that’s well within the norm of human bad behavior. Somehow because it involved celebrities and happened at an industry pageant it’s more important than if it happened on karaoke night at a neighborhood bar? People say stupid things and sometimes others overreact. It implies that the Oscar pageant is an event like a state funeral and that celebrities need to follow a higher standard of behavior than “ordinary” people. Right now there’s a pandemic and a bloody war of conquest going on. The Big Slap pales.
Chris stood with his hands behind his back and took the smack like a man. Will Smith is a Cuck trying to get his manhood back in front of the World. Epic fail and proof WOKE Progressives don’t walk their talk.
To all the folks supporting Smith; According to the metric that it’s OK to assault someone for a bad joke, then Ted Cruz would have been in his rights to shoot T-F-G for insulting his wife and implying that his dad killed JFK.I could live with that.
Clay Bennett has drawn a superb editorial cartoon. I say this as a person who also is a cartoonist. It’s subtle yet direct in its message and has obviously elicited a lot of comments. Kudos, Mr. Bennett!

Leave the man alone! He was defending his wife! If it was a white guy who did this, everyone would have applauded!
