My high school coach was not like that. He was admired — even revered — by the players. Thanks to him, we were always first or second in the state in both football and basketball. And I saw players pull off “impossible” plays that could not have been practiced in advance, but were the result of general competence and being inspired.
Just one simple example: Defense failed, and the QB was tackled with the ball still in his hand. Falling backward, he released the ball with his head and shoulders 2 feet above the ground… completing a 60-yard pass.
