Nothing new, even in 2002. Franklin Roosevelt once said about Dominican Republic dictator Rafael Trujillo, "He may be a bas****, but he’s our bas****.”
And what Garry Trudeau had the character say is all too true. In American foreign policy, democracy is nice but stability (however that’s defined) is better.
I see that there are a number of anti-Trump compilation books on sale here. I hope they’re selling well; Americans really need to learn what they’ve gotten themselves into!
Not really that funny, especially with the intelligence failure of 9-11-2001 happened because of a turf war between the CIA & the FBI. Read the report (9-11 commission) sometime, it’s illuminating and doesn’t paint a pretty picture of anyone from that time. :-(
Reminds me of Tom Lehrer’s song, “Send the Marines”, specifically the lyric, “They’ve got to be protected, all their rights respected, ’til somebody we like can be elected”.
And since we abandoned Afghanistan the country has regressed 50 years. Stonings of women, women not allowed to even hear each other, summary daily executions. We punked out, like Vietnam, because of weak leadership from the oval office. With Trump and his love of Putin and North Korea, I’d be very scared if I was Ukraine. Maybe we can find a way for Trump to seek asylum with his buddy.

I think that could be achieved by having the POTUS follow the Constitution.
