Years ago, I had adopted a dog while stationed in the Philippines. She was a Vietnam War Veteran and had PTSD so each 4th of July I would make a nest in the bathtub so she could burrow in. Then I would put on some smooth Jazz and sit with her till all the excitement was over. Other than that one small need she was an incredible companion who never left my side never needing a leash.
I’ve never had an animal, dog or cat that seems to care one way or another about the noises of the 4th. The last dog I ad would follow me out to light the stuff.
I’m lucky on this issue. I have a black lab mix and fireworks don’t bother her. Last year the night of July 4 was pretty mild and she was sleeping outside during the city fireworks display. But when I start a vacuum cleaner she heads upstairs at warp speed.
Remember your animals and keep them safe. Our cats couldn’t care less, the fireworks don’t bother them at all but I have friends who dread this night all year. As they sit with a shivering dog or spend the night in the barn with terrified horses. Have consideration for those around you.
Down on our river last night, which runs through town, the “highlight” of the evening is cannon fire during one of the songs. As if the fireworks aren’t bad enough. Tonight, there will just be fireworks at the lake.
I’m lucky non of my cats seem bothered. Boots sometimes has trouble with thunder, but not fireworks. Growing up we had dogs. A couple had trouble with fireworks & thunder, but most didn’t seem to be bothered.

The fireworks I can’t stand are those pieces that go off with a really bright flash and a really loud bang!

It must be 3am, well that is the time my neighbors like to shoot them off.

We have three cats and a dog. Each will be cuddled and comforted during these noisy times!

We have two new mutts, so we don’t know how they will react, but we have two neighbors who load up on illegal aerial fireworks every year.

My dog has to have Trazodone all day thanks to those lousy things. Fireworks are banned in our area, but yeah, sure.

I take back all the bad things I thought yesterday when it looked like they were going to let him suffer alone.

Mine was fine just cuddled up on the sofa with me, head on my lap. She knew she wouldn’t be hurt so long as she was with me.
