This campaign is a bit misleading. There are other reasons than gender bias that cause the pay disparity, the chief being that the women’s game doesn’t draw the crowds nor corresponding ticket prices, logo (i.e., jerseys, etc.) and TV money to pay them at an equal rate. However, let’s hope the rise in popularity of players like Clark and Brink, et all, is the start of the rise in league income. As popularity grows, so will product demand, ticket prices and the rest, resulting in pay raises — assuming the players union is strong enough to gain a fair portion of the receipts.

My brother, who’s had to listen to me about the disparities for years but had never really seen it clearly; not his fault, pie in the sky is a very different perspective that seeing those numbers on a piece of paper. He was completely horrified by Wembenyama’s rookie contract compared to Caitlyn Clark’s. I could hear him yelling at the TV, “Somebody has to fix this”. From his mouth to the powers that be’s ears ;-) I did just read she’s about to sign a significant contract with Nike. Let’s hope it’s a start in the correct direction for all the women who play their hearts out every game.

Not necessarily. If it’s a function of revenues, that’s a lot different than discriminating among those who are equals.

The Grand Slam tennis tournaments went to equal pay because the women were just as strong a draw (tickets, ratings) as the men. That is obviously not the case in professional basketball.

Go to YouTube, write in Bill Burr “Women Sports, what men think but can’t say” this explains it all.

Clark will cause a sell out every game this year which will allow everybody who didn’t get to go to Iowa to be able to see her play
