Say what you like about Jake, but he is rising to the occasion and being a smart leader for Endtown throughout this crisis.

Jake: “But, if you want to feel helpful, clear Heather Hoss’ name. And, oh yeah… you know, I could use another mole in Foxworthy’s camp. You ARE a mole, right?”

Look at this lovely bed you’ve made, Dottie. I hope you enjoy sleeping in it.

Trouble is Dottie being a true fanatic in her beliefs will probably let everything Jake said go completely over her head. She may wake up when she has to deal with the public.

Love him or hate him, you have to admit that Jacob is a well-fleshed-out character!

I didn’t think Jake would mete out any punishment to Dottie. He’s right — her reputation in the community is shot and it’ll take her a while to restore it. She’ll be out of the picture for now unless she continues on a malcontent path. I don’t see her doing that, though.

Waiting impatiently for Monday to see what Jake does next. There are a number of dead or jailed wolves to deal with and an understandably jittery community to calm down.

Interesting how Jacob associates Dottie with the attempted wolf coup and denies any responsibility for it when it was his baby all along. Dude’s slick.

Jake doesn’t have to do a thing about Dottie. Once Lucas’ more… ahem… rabid followers finds out that Lucas was killed while Dottie was simply allowed to walk, capybara is back on the menu.

So, going back several years, this is the crisis Aaron Marx knew could only be handled by Jacob Jackrabbit, and against his notions of fairness and justice he helped manipulate Jackrabbit into the leadership through the horrible Milk Trial. He changed Endtown from a system of citizens’ participation to an elected leader to a dictatorship. Neathery has planned this story years in advance. Wow.

Jacob: “Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop smoking.”

Later: “Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.”

Now the other story arc comes into play, the one where the pigs disappear, become someone’s main course, & their remains just being well-gnawed on bones. This whole affair with the wolves is an excellent diversion for the real criminals to plan on and carry out their keeping fresh pork in their diets.

I sure could be that only J. jackrabbit Could handle this kind of thing at tis time, and since Aaron Marx is both a prognosticator and an apprentice magician, maybe I remember wrong and he is an apprentice cosmic wizard.

    Well, Dottie… What happens now?

Oddly enough, the story of Stan Lee comes to mind. He was ready to quit the comic book business, when his wife suggested that he writes one more comic book the way he wanted to write it. He took her advice, and we all know how he turned out.

If Dottie still has access to newspaper supplies, she should try to make the kind of newspaper she wanted to make. Only this issue should focus a little more on paying respect to the victims of the failed wolf revolution, and finding out the truth behind the disappearing pigs.

Oh, and let’s not forget that she owes Water Trimble and Portia an apology. After all, she’ll need all the help she can get to undo the damage she’s done.

It’s almost a pity… They could be working together to figure out the situation with the disappearing pigs. It’s going to be up to the wolves to think about how they’ve been acting…

If there are any left, that is.

I think the third panel is great as it shows Dottie’s expression when she realizes Jacob’s comments are correct. She has trashed her own reputation.

While Jackrabbit’s pretty correct in his assessment, it’s rather grim how Dottie’s ultimately the one left to take the fall for shit that happened completely outside of her control. Right from the start she was clear that she wanted to establish an anti-prejudice newsletter and was shown to be uncomfortable with a lot of what Lucas did and said, and was clearly and transparently horrified when she saw what he’d actually written while she was busy in the courtroom. Here’s hoping she’s able to redeem herself, at least the option is there.

And I fail to see how Jackrabbit killing Lucas after goading him into attacking is particularly cool or effective, too – if kept alive, Lucas could have been shown to be the stupid, delusional asshole that he was, without being the martyr he so desperately claimed to want to be. Now that he’s dead with Dottie as the only witness, his death could potentially be warped into the sort of thing he’d be proud of.

I won’t be surprised if the civilians aren’t happy with Jackrabbit after all this, too – for all the people crowing about how Jack is doing ‘what needed to be done’ and all that, under his watch the rats who he promised would never return are literally sweeping truckloads of civilian corpses up, with Jack being eager to take the ridiculous claims of Lucas (about the wolves being revolutionaries instead of just being pissed-off about the outcome of the trial) at face-value as justification. And it doesn’t appear to have stopped the pigs being killed either, which seems to have been oddly forgotten even though it’s what started the whole chain of events.

Have we sunk to the bottom yet? Or will Buffalo wings show up on the menu at the local bar scene?
