so it is Wally’s "fundamental human essence”.. so much bigger and brighter than the rest... Hopefully a jawbreaker for Eye. ..like eddi_tbh said

I hope that large glow in the last panel is Eye exploding as Wally (in essence form) tears it up from the inside.

How much does Marx know that he isn’t telling? He deliberately trips Duffy so that the kid doesn’t kill himself trying to help Wally, knowing that the brave effort would be useless. He knows the “scolding” is also useless, so why did he bother making such a snarky comment to Duffy? Does he know that everything will turn out okay, so he’s unconcerned with the current circumstances? I frequently waver between liking Marx, not liking Marx, and being exasperated with Marx.

Interesting. Scary, but interesting. Quick guess here without going back to review.: In key situations where Marx shows up, has he ever been the one who performs the critical act? He probably could have stopped the Opabinia Queen’s destructive course himself. But instead he let Flask and Wally play it out. Marx stacked the deck against Flask, but she chose to pull the trigger. That was the critical point. Marx transporting the group home later after eating that explosive meal was more like expedient transport, and maybe reward. Here, it seems like Marx seems to waiting for the other characters to do what is necessary to save Wally and/or everything. Marx probably can help (and is providing background), but won’t (or can’t) take direct action against that thing.

I was wrong, as is usually the case, that WAS Wally’s essence. I hoped I wasn’t wrong…for Wally’s sake.

    Here’s hoping for a miracle.

And Marx trips the would-be hero. AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY I SAY HE’S A JERK! And if this was a plot to save Wally and didn’t tell anyone, again, there’s a reason I say he’s a Jerk.

Just a humble observation: The ‘I’ thing appeared to be all light and glowie on its own. But as it came in contact with Wally’s essence – Wally was so much more pure light that the thing appears black and dark by comparison. Not sure what that means – but given the skill of our story teller – it matters.

I’m sorry, I’m not quite getting the picture near the bottom where Marx is saying, “Bad bad Destroyer of Souls.” I can make out the faces and the mouth and teeth in the other pictures, but what are those two white columns of smoke in this picture?

Something is happening to Eye/God. His legs had begun to disappear as soon as he popped Wally into his mouth. Duffy’s dive came up with nothing but empty space. Marx doesn’t seem too concerned — he’s acting more like Willy Wonka when Violet went ahead and did all the things she wasn’t supposed to do. And the final expression on Eye/God’s face does not look happy or sated — it looks like dawning horror to me. The light went out behind his nose and eyes. Maybe Wally is the sacrifice needed to bring his reign to an end, like Neo with Smith.

Maybe Duffy was tripped because either Alan or the bird need to do the saving. I’m guessing it’s Alan because in the comic book he’s evidently a more central character according to things mentioned throughout this arc.

Now that we know Marx is trying to stop a supernatural creature from consuming, digesting, and excreting souls, maybe he should be played by Bruce Campbell.

The villain is getting exactly what he wants and Marx is not interfering in any way whatsoever. There’s usually a fuse involved when the bad guy swallows the dynamite. On the other hand, Wally’s story coming to an end would never be a normal ending. Too much has gone on for that, and there’s nowhere left for him to retire to- even if there is.

All that Wally has gone through up to this moment may have been a crucible and forge to make sure Wally’s soul is the brightest, most powerful, most unswallowable pill “I” could take on, to its downfall. Wally is a Damascus sword, beaten and folded constantly for strength and sharpness and integrity. Whatever the metaphor, he was made for this.

All this time, the Demon has been sinking its claws into Wally, driving him more and more insane.

But so has Marx. And he doesn’t seem concerned that now the Demon has taken Wally into its essence—hook, line, and sinker.
