They appear to be singing something in the final panel. I would guess it is “Happy Birthday to You”, but maybe they had to pull the lyrics because they did not want to pay the rights to use the song.

But it is someone’s birthday, Elizabeth! Christmas —which I wish a merry one— is about the birth of Christ.

I don’t believe my family ever had a Christmas cake tradition, aside from fruit cake. Is a Christmas cake a common thing?

It appeared to me that in the 3rd panel it finally hit them what Christmas is about.

I would like to say “Merry Christmas” with a song based on a poem I wrote when my daughter was a newborn that I put to music years later. When I did finally put it to music, it was too short, just one verse, so I decided to write a second verse.
