“How are WE going to tell your dad?” If Michael wasn’t in such a daze, he could think quick and have replied, “Oh could you tell him? That would be better. Dad wouldn’t hit a girl!”
One of the strips – and collection of comments – that reminds me how different my perspective is. My first thought is how to get the car drying and save any paperwork that may be soaked. Water damage is progressive and nobody is hurt. Deal with the problem then deal with the people.
The answer to your question is simple michael, you never think about what you do, the proof is that while you were wondering what she would think of you, what you should have thought is what your father would think when he found out about the car!
ignoring gender and boyfriend girlfriend dynamic … if you ever find a friend who’s first inclination is “where to we hide the body/ let’s get out alibis’ worked out.” KEEP that person in your life.

Mike is so super focused on Rhetta that he forgets he’s more in trouble with his dad than Rhetta.

Has Rhetta already met John??
How else would she know about his obsession about his car??

Some things are much more important than being wet.

What’re we going to tell your pop?
What’re we going to tell our friends when they go “OOH LA LA”?

John’s priorities are sports car first, career second, family third. When John dies, he wants the sports car to be buried with him.

Maybe this will touch off some reader reminisces about “unusual first dates”. This one would seem to be a leading contender.

Better yet, what possessed him to decide to wash his dads car while he is driving a potential new GF home after long day at work?

Michael, showing his budding maturity, thinking about Rhetta, instead of about an inanimate sports car.

Michael bears most of the blame, but you’d think the car wash people would make sure the car’s windows were closed before letting him go through.
